Hakarimata Waterworks Track & Summit Track

About the Hakarimata

The native forest and birdlife of the Hakarimata Range provides the perfect setting for a day out in one of the Waikato region’s most beautiful landscapes. Located in the town Ngaruawahia, the ranges include 1,850 hectares of native forest protected in Hakarimata Scenic Reserve. A walk in the reserve will reward you with babbling streams, picturesque waterfalls and impressive views over the surrounding countryside.

The track that most people do and is still a challange for many is the Waterworks track which is in the middle section of the Hakarimata Secenic Reserve. If you choose to go to the summit you will climb 374 metres above sea level, on the Hakarimata Summit Track, which includes the infamous staircase, a popular challange with both locals and vistors alike.

The location of the Hakarimata Track entrance is off Brownlee Avenue, off the Ngaruawahia end of Hakarimata Road. The average return time of the Waterworks Track is 1 hour return.

About Lake Ngaroto

Lake Ngaroto, a natural wetland situated in the Waikato region, serves as a prime location for an effortless 1.5-hour stroll, enticing visitors as a renowned recreational reserve that remains in high demand throughout the year.

With much wildlife and birdlife around the lake it makes for various bird watching opportunities, and the mostly great flat walking track and picnic area makes this a great family walk for those in the Waikato area or for those that are less able.

The local sailing club is regularly on the water, while the camouflaged huts around the lake's edge play host to duck hunters during the months of May and June.

Lake Ngaroto can be found at Bank Rd off paterangi Rd. please keep note dogs must be kept on a leash.

Hamilton City Riverside Walk

About Hamiltons City Riverside Walk

On the inside of the bustling city of Hamilton a walking and cycling track follows along the banks of the Waikato River through the heart of Hamilton. With ease of access from nearly anywhere in Hamilton from Hamilton Gardens to Wairere Drive you can easily walk any distance of the track.

The track is wheelchair friendly with many entry points, car parks and conveniently located toilets.

No matter if you decide to walk a small margin of the track or all of it, it will keep you refresh till the next time

To gain entry to the track there are entry points along the western and eastern banks of the Waikato River to get on and the length of the track depends on yourself.
